E-Governance in the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has emerged as a significant mechanism for reforming education administration by managing the public education system efficiently, transparently, accountably and with the help of technology. The use of Information and Communication Technologies has transformed traditional administration through the digital management of educational information, human resources, teacher deployment, school monitoring, attendance, communication, planning and service delivery. To enhance educational governance, KP has launched a number of initiatives under E&SED that include Education Monitoring Information System, EMIS, Human Resource Information System, HRIS, e-Transfer Policy, e-Filing, e-Notification, and e-Summary. These initiatives have facilitated access to real-time data, monitoring, administrative coordination, transparency, and evidence-based decision-making. However, effective implementation of e-governance still faces issues of digital infrastructure, connectivity, system integration, technical capacity and technological literacy. The review of existing e-governance initiatives, identification of key institutional and technological gaps and review of relevant practices at the national and international levels are discussed to develop context-sensitive policy recommendations. This adds to the existing literature on digital transformation in education by addressing practical ways for an efficient, transparent, responsive, inclusive and evidence-based educational governance system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
