Abstract

The current study empirically explores the role of the Pakistan People’s 
Party in the movement of restoration of democracy (MRD). The only 
strong opposition group in Pakistan at the time that continuously fought 
Zia's initiatives was the Pakistan People's Party. The study's main 
objective was to explore the role of the Pakistan People’s Party in the 
movement for the restoration of democracy at that very time. The nature 
of the research was purely qualitative, deductive, and inductive. The 
population was from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Peshawar and Kohat 
universities, and different universities and experts were targeted. There 
were a fifth of respondents in the study who had a purpose; I have a 
sampling strategy was used. It was collected through an interview guide 
and then analysed thematically. The findings of the study suggested that 
MRD played a great role in maintaining democracy at that very time. 
Poverty was removed from the Pakistani nation. The Zia dictatorship 
initiated a lot of civil wars, and political stability was disturbed. In a 
nutshell, MRD played a great role in maintaining democracy and 
removing poverty from Pakistan. It is recommended that political 
stability and democracy be maintained due to the restoration of 
democracy in the movement.
